Sapporo has three subway lines running from early morning to late into the evening. Serving a total of 46 stations throughout Sapporo, they link the main business, commercial, and entertainment areas to all parts of the city, including Hokkaido University where Kita 12, Kita 18 and Kita 24 stations can be used to access various parts the huge campus.
Various one-day or pre-paid passes covering all these services are available, making travelling within Sapporo even cheaper and more convenient.

Using the subway is both safe and simple. To enter the platform, first purchase your ticket and then put it through the electronic ticket gate. As you walk through, be sure to take your ticket as it comes out the other side. To exit the platform, put your ticket through the ticket gate. If you have any problems, there are always friendly station attendants to assist you.
Obtaining Discounts on Fares
There are various ways you can obtain discounts on fares – each listed below.
The “With You” Card gives you a 10%-15% discount on subway as well as bus fares.

Doni-chika Kippu Subway Tickets – A Donichi Subway Ticket gives you unlimited use of Sapporo subway lines for one day (only usable on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays) Adult: ¥500 / Child: ¥250
Subway Daytime Discount Card – This card gives you ¥2,500 worth of subway fares between 10:00 to 16:00 for the price of ¥2,000.
SAPICA – This card is a rechargeable prepaid IC card which can be used on all three of Sapporo’s subway lines. With SAPICA you can accumulate 10% of your fare in points with each trip, and these points can be used towards the purchase of future trips.
