Graduate School Admission
Do you accept research students, "Kenkyusei," in graduate courses?
No, we do not have research student schemes. If you are seeking a non-degree type of scheme, we accept exchange students for graduate courses. Please refer to the list of our partner universities at http://web.iec.aoyama.ac.jp/english/exchange/list.html. If your university is on the list and you are interested in studying at Aoyama through the exchange program, please contact the international office of your university.
Do you conduct graduate school entrance exams for international students?
Yes, the Graduate School of International Politics, Economics and Communication; the Graduate School of Science and Engineering; and the Graduate School of Law each have entrance exams for international students. Please note that sufficient Japanese language skills are required to take these courses.
Courses
Do you have a Japanese language institution at your university?
No, we have neither preparatory Japanese language programs nor an independent Japanese language institute. However, we provide Japanese language education for exchange students and privately-financed international students at the undergraduate level as part of the Aoyama Standard educational program.
Do you offer undergraduate degree programs conducted solely in English?
No, we do not provide English-based undergraduate degree programs. While a few courses are taught in English, most lectures are conducted in Japanese, so students are required to have a high level of Japanese language proficiency. Either a score report of the EJU Japanese-language test or a JLPT N1 scorecard is required to take undergraduate entrance exams for international students.
Do you offer any English-based degree programs at the graduate level?
The Strategic Management and Intellectual Property Rights Program (SMIPRP) at the Graduate School of Business, a one-year master degree program established in April 2011, is conducted entirely in English. This program is designed for future leaders, especially in customs organizations from other countries, and a minimum of three years full-time work experience is required as a prerequisite.
I am interested in studying for an MA in International Communication. How many lectures are taught in English?
Two lectures are conducted in English: "Intercultural Dialogue" and "Intercultural Ethics".
Scholarships/Financial Aid
Do you have any scholarship schemes for international students?
