If you’re thinking of studying and living in Sydney, you need to know what it costs to support yourself. This includes the cost of accommodation, food, transport, services, utilities, entertainment and other expenses to help you make the most of your time in this exciting city.
At UTS, we estimate that an international student requires a minimum of A$17,472 to A$25,896 for living expenses for each academic year. A Department of Immigration and Border Protection requirement is that prospective international students must demonstrate that they have access to at least A$18,610 a year to fund their living costs in Australia.
Accommodation
Choose to live in one of UTS’s five residencies close to the UTS campus or in off-campus accommodation. You will need to consider your preferred location, as well as your budget before you decide which accommodation option suits your needs and lifestyle.
UTS accommodation
The UTS Housing Service offers safe, comfortable and affordable student accommodation close to the UTS campus. They also offer information and support to help you arrange private rental accommodation and can also assist with temporary accommodation for when you first arrive in Sydney.

Independent accommodation
For independent accommodation you should expect to pay approximately A$4200 start up or establishment costs. These costs include items such as a rental accommodation bond (four weeks’ rent), rent in advance, linen, furniture, telephone and internet connection, kitchenware, personal items and electricity connections.
