Waterloo has set minimum academic requirements if you are applying to Waterloo with an International educational background. It is important to note that programs may set higher requirements.
Master's Admission
To be considered for a Master’s program at Waterloo you must:
Have at least a 75% overall standing in a four-year Honours Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Doctoral Admission
To be considered for a Doctoral program at Waterloo you must:
Have at least a 75% overall standing, or equivalent, in your previous degree.
Demonstrate other superior qualifications, such as advanced research ability.
In certain instances a candidate who has successfully completed one PhD may be admitted into a second PhD in a complementary area.
Non-Degree Admission
To be considered as a non-degree graduate student:
You have already earned an Honours Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the appropriate discipline.
You want to take one or more courses but are not interested in earning a degree.
It is important to know
Not every department/program admits non-degree students.
Courses taken as non-degree may not be used for credit toward a degree in a graduate program.
If you decide to proceed to a degree you will pay fees according to your category at that time.
You will not normally be granted full-time status as a non-degree student.
Before you apply
Confirm with the department/program that offers the course(s) you are interested in taking to ensure they do admit non-degree students.
Confirm with the department what application materials are required when applying as a non-degree student.
