  Financial matters

Tuition fees for international students who are new at UAS Leiden are € 7,000 (€ 3,000 for students of the Bachelor of Dance in Education and Bachelor of Music in Education programmes). An international student who receives a Dutch study grant (studiefinanciering) or who is a national of a European Union member country, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland or Surinam pays the same tuition fees as a student who has Dutch nationality. Their tuition fees for the 2013-2014 academic year are € 1,906. There are exceptions to the rules. If you want to know what tuition fees you will have to pay, contact Caroline Teeuwisse of our Student Registration Office (studentzaken@hsleiden.nl)

  Costs of living

Apart from tuition fees, you need to consider that your cost of living will be between € 800 and € 1,100 a month. This includes costs for housing, food, public transport and personal expenses.

  Dutch bank account

In our university building you can pay with bank cards that have the Maestro logo. If you do not have a bank card with the Maestro logo, you can open a bank account at a Dutch bank, which will issue you a Dutch bank card with the Maestro logo.

To open a Dutch bank account, you will need to present to following documents:

  Passport / ID card

  Rental contract

Proof that you are registered as a student at our university (you can ask for this document from our International Office)

Here are the names and addresses of a couple of the larger banks in Leiden:

  Rabobank, Stationsweg 37-39, Leiden

ABN AMRO Bank, Stationsweg 31-33, Leiden

  ING, Schuttersveld 18, Leiden

Cheques are rarely used in the Netherlands. Cash machines (ATMs) can be found throughout the country.
