  Scholarships

Many international students get financial support through scholarships. These scholarships are provided by the DAAD (Germany Academic Exchange Service) as well as other institutions in research, business and politics.

  Important:

Please consider the early application deadlines and the period of support for scholarships.

Trier University does not grant scholarships to fund an entire degree.

You may find the scholarshipmost appropriate for you in the DAAD scholarship database.

  Studying and Working

Generally it is not possible to finance the entire degree by working besides studying due to time and legal limits. You will be so busy with your studies that there is no opportunity to work. Legally, you can only work limited in time during your studies. Non-EU citizens are only allowed to work a maximum of 120 full days pr 240 half days annually. There is no time limit for EU citizens.

  Accomodation

Besides the service package of the Student Services for international students, there are student dormitories by Trier University and private providers. However, you can also search for a room or apartment in the private housing market.

Tip: Due to the tense situation in the housing market in Trier, especially before the beginning of the semester it is not easy to find accommodation. The earlier you start looking the better is your chance to find the right place.

Furthermore, you should be aware of two specifics concerning the German housing market: On one hand, most rooms/apartments in the private housing market are unfurnished (contrary to the student dormitories of Trier University and several privately operated student dormitories). On the other hand, rent in the private housing market does not include utility costs such as water, electricity or gas. If you decide to search in the private housing market, the following list of abbreviations will help you to make your choice.

  a) Service package by the Student Services Office for international students

The service package does not only include accommodation services but also offers to help with social integration. More..

  b) Student dormitories of Trier University

Please refer to the Studierendenwerk (SWT: Student Services Trier) if you want to rent a furnished room in one of the student dormitories by Trier University.

  c) Privately operated student dormitories

Several of the privately operated student dormitories are close to the university. Depending on the operator the rooms are either furnished or not furnished. For further information please contact the private operators directly.

  d) Finding a room or apartment in the private housing market

Please find further information on private housing providers if you’d rather rent a room or apartment on the private housing market.

The International Office (AAA) attempts to find accommodation for all Erasmus or other foreign students. Rent for students who spend only one semester in Trier is normally higher than for students who stay longer. The AAA arranges rooms in halls of residence.

The rent is a minimum of 250 EURO per month. Students who wish to have a room arranged for them should include an accommodation form with their application for admittance, indicating the precise duration of their stay.
