General Tuition Fees
There are no general tuition fees required by the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar for undergraduate studies which aim to achieve a degree as an initial qualification for the practice of a profession. Similarly, there are no general tuition fees required at the time for studies leading to a Master's degree which directly follow the completion of an undergraduate degree .
Starting on 1 October 2008, a tuition fee of 500 Euros per semester will be required for graduate studies which do not directly follow an undergraduate degree. More detailed information on the programs of study concerned here will be provided in due time.
Required Contributions
Upon matriculation, re-registration and application for a leave of absence, the following fees are required:
58.00 Euros -- for the Student Council
90.10 Euros -- for the semester train ticket (DB, ÖPNV, VMT)
9.50 Euros -- for the Student Body
157.60 Euros -- altogether
The following fees can be waived in the case of a leave of absence for studies abroad:

Fees for the Entrance Exam and Aptitude Assessment Process
For the entrance exams and the aptitude assessment process, a fee of 30 Euros is required.
Fees for Additional Studies
For additional studies ('Weiterbildendes Studium') focusing on the refinement of skills learned at a school of music, or the expansion of knowledge and abilities acquired in the professional world, a fee is required (in accordance with paragraphs 5 and 6 of the 'Allgemeine Gebührenordnung der Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT Weimar'). Such studies are generally undertaken by students who have exhausted all other paths of study. For additional studies in exclusively academic or theoretical subjects, a fee of 120 Euros is required.
The calculation of costs is based on covering the costs of lessons by faculty members. For every 60 minutes, these costs come to between 20.45 Euros for lessons in chamber music or supporting (optional) subjects to 40.90 Euros for lessons in a major area of study. According to regulations, a minimum of 4.5 hours weekly is assumed.
Proof of the payment of these fees is required by the beginning of the semester. No refund of this fee is possible after matriculation in the case that the student does not complete or only partially completes his or her studies.
Long term studies
The government of Thuringia decided on 3 April 2003 to change the law applying to universities and introduce tuition fees for long term studies. The fee is 500 Euros per semester.
