International Freshman Admissions Process
Freshman applicants to the University of Utah are students who have not attended another college or university. The majority of freshman applicants will be applying directly from secondary school (high school). Students who have taken AP, IB, or A-level coursework for which they may receive college credit, will still apply as a freshman as long as they have not enrolled in another college or university.
Required Application Documents
In addition to the application, freshman students must submit the following items:
Transcripts (mark sheets, school records, grades) for secondary school (9-12). Official English translations must be provided if the transcripts are only in the native language.
Before starting classes at the University of Utah, students must submit an official copy of their secondary school transcript and proof of graduation directly to the Office of Admissions.
Official printed transcripts can be dropped off in a sealed envelope at the International Admissions service window in the Student Services Building (SSB) or mailed to:

Proof of English Proficiency

English language proficiency is critical to your success at the University of Utah. Applicants whose first language, or language of instruction for at least the last three years is not English, are required to demonstrate English Proficiency.
English proficiency at the University of Utah may be demonstrated by freshman applicants by meeting one of the following:
TOEFL: 80 (Internet-based test), 550 (paper-based test), or 213 (computer-based test)*
IELTS: An overall band of 6.5 on the Academic Examination International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score report demonstrating an adequate knowledge of English*
ACT English score of 18 or higher*
SAT Critical Reading score of 500 or higher*
Native speakers of English who are citizens of Australia, Canada (except Quebec), New Zealand, the UK and Ireland and who were educated entirely in English**
Graduated from a high school in the United States or in a country where English is the only official language after completing at least 2.5 years of study and performing well in non-English as a Second Language (ESL)/Language Arts classes**
Students who attended 2.5 years and plan to graduate/graduated from a U.S. or U.S. Regionally Accredited High School, or completed a U.S. GED and performed well in non-English as a Second Language (ESL)/Language Arts classes must submit an ACT or SAT**
*Test date must be within two years of admission for scores to be valid
**Please note that all freshman applicants must submit a test score to complete their application. If students are not required to submit a TOEFL/IETLS score they must provide an ACT/SAT score.
The non-refundable application fee for international students is $55. Fees cannot be waived for visa holders. A $30 late fee will be required after the admissions deadline. Applications are not complete until the application fee has been paid. Please do not send cash.

International Transfer Admissions Process
Transfer applicants to the University of Utah are students who have attended another college or university. Students may be applying from another U.S. institution, or a post-secondary school in another country.
Required Application Documents
In addition to the application, transfer students must submit the following items:
College or university transcripts for all post-secondary schools attended. Official English translations must be provided if the transcripts are only in the native language.
If transfer applicants have fewer than 30 transferrable credit hours they must also submit secondary school records. This includes transcripts (mark sheets, school records, grades) for secondary school (9-12). Official English translations must be provided if the transcripts are only in the native language.
Have at least a 2.6 transfer GPA.
Unofficial transcripts are acceptable to complete the admissions application and can be
scanned or e-mailed directly to iao@sa.utah.edu.

Receive a grade of “C” or better in a college-level English Composition course (equivalent to WRTG 1010 – Intro to Academic Writing at the U or WRTG 2010 – Intermediate Writing: Academic Writing & Research) at a regionally-accredited U.S. college or university
Earn an Associates of Arts (AA) or Associates of Science (AS) degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S. within the past two years
