First-Year Application Requirements
Applying to Emory University is done online through either the Common Application or the Coalition Application. Students have the freedom to select either application, and the Admission staff is not, in any way, partial to one application over the other. Both applications offer the same personalized options to all students: to apply to either Emory College, Oxford College, or both and to select the desired admission plan.
To complete your admission file, the Emory University Office of Undergraduate Admission requires the following:
Common Application or Coalition Application
A $75 application fee or application fee waiver
Official high school transcripts
Official college transcripts, if applicable
Official scores from the SAT and/or the ACT; if English is your second language, it is highly recommended that you submit results from the TOEFL or IELTS
Testing Codes: SAT/TOEFL: 5187; ACT: 0810
Secondary school report/counselor’s recommendation
Two teacher letters of recommendation
Mid-year report (due January 25 for EDII; February 15 for RD applicants)
Home-Schooled Applicants: In addition to meeting all admission requirements and submitting the required results from the SAT or ACT, we request that home-schooled applicants also submit results from three SAT II subject exams—one in mathematics and two of the student's choosing. Additionally, we require at least one letter of recommendation from someone other than a family member. We also encourage home-schooled applicants to submit a comprehensive explanation of their curriculum.
International Applicants
English Proficiency Requirements
Applicants who do not use English as their primary language must demonstrate the ability to be successful in a rigorous English-medium academic curriculum. Applicants must be fluent in written and spoken English at the time they apply to Emory University. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is highly recommended when English is not the native language of the student; however, students for whom English is not the native language can also demonstrate exceptional command of the English language through the following criteria:
The student achieves a 650 Critical Reading score on the SAT
The student achieves a 30 English subset score on the ACT
The student has spent the most recent four years of school where English is the language of instruction for all academic subjects (excluding foreign language.)
A score of 100 on the Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) or an overall band score of 7.5 on the IELTS is expected for all applicants. These scores are not used as cut-offs and review of English language proficiency is viewed in the context of each application. The highest total score of a single sitting will be used if the student elects to take an exam more than once. Students are also encouraged to take the optional Writing section of the SAT or ACT exam to demonstrate English proficiency.
The review of all applicants is holistic and close attention will be paid to the strength of the high school curriculum, achievement in the classroom over time, and standardized exam results.
