  Admission for International Students

  International applicants must meet the regular admission requirements of their student type. If you have never attended college, please see our information for Freshmen applicants. If you have completed college coursework and wish to complete your undergraduate degree at Georgia State, please see our information for Transfer applicants. If you don’t fit in either of those categories, review the other applicant types.

  In addition to meeting all of the admission requirements for your student type, as an international student, you must also submit the following materials by the appropriate deadline:

  Proof of English Proficiency if English is not your first language. (Students from Puerto Rico must meet the English Proficiency requirements.)

  Official evaluations of all foreign transcripts

  After you are academically admitted to Georgia State University, International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) will contact you about next steps to request your immigration documents and student visa.

  International Freshmen

  Freshman applicants are those who are currently in high school or have received a high school diploma and have less than 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of college credit.

  Requirements

  Complete all parts of the application, including signature and date.

  Submit the non-refundable application fee of $60.

  Submit your ACT or SAT scores electronically to Georgia State University.

  Georgia State offers a limited number of SAT/ACT waivers to F-1 visa international students who demonstrate exceptional academic credentials. Please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

  Submit proof of English proficiency.

  Submit official high school transcript(s).

  Please do not submit your only original copy – bring it to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and we will make a copy from the original.

  Submit official evaluation (if appropriate).

  Georgia State University requires that all international academic documents (transcripts, mark sheets, certificates, leaving examination results, etc.) be formally evaluated by either the Office of Undergraduate Admissions or an independent evaluation service.

  After you are academically admitted to Georgia State University, International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) will contact you about next steps to request your immigration documents and student visa.

  International Transfers

  Transfer applicants are those who have attended an accredited college inside or outside the U.S. and have more than 30 transferrable hours or 45 transferrable quarter hours of credit.

  Requirements

  Have a minimum cumulative 2.5 grade point average in college-level courses (excluding development/remedial courses) from all accredited institutions attended.

  Complete all parts of the application, including signature and date

  Submit the non-refundable application fee of $60

  Submit proof of English proficiency

  Submit official college transcript(s)

  Please do not submit your only original copy – bring it to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and we will make a copy from the original.

  Submit official evaluation (if appropriate)

  Georgia State University requires that all international documents be evaluated by an independent evaluation service. Transfer applicants are required to submit a course by course evaluation.

  After you are academically admitted to Georgia State University, International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) will contact you about next steps to request your immigration documents and student visa.

  English Proficiency

  In addition to meeting all other applicable requirements for admission, non-native speakers of English must demonstrate sufficient English language proficiency. This may be demonstrated by any of the following:

  International Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5

  Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)scores of:

  550 or better (paper test)

  79-80 (internet-based test)

  Georgia State Test of English Proficiency (GSTEP) score of 6.

  Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) score of 58.

  Successful completion of Georgia State University’s Intensive English Program.

  For transfer applicants, completion of a college-level English composition course with a grade of “C-” or better at a regionally accredited U.S. college or university.

  For freshmen applicants, SAT Critical Reading score of 430 or better or ACT English score of 17 or better.

  Non-native speakers of English who meet all admission requirements except the English language proficiency may be granted provisional or conditional admission.
