Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is required of ALL applicants unless noted below. Enter your GRE scores on the online application. Unofficial test reports should be uploaded into the online application for the review process. If you no longer have your official test report from ETS, you can log into your ETS account and take a screen shot of your scores to upload. Tests taken after an application has been submitted will need to be sent to the Graduate School as an email attachment, so that they may be added to your online application.Official scores will ONLY be required prior to orientation if an offer of admission has been made and accepted by the student. All official GRE scores will need to be received directly from the Educational Testing Service.
Master of Arts in Bioethics Applicants - The GRE requirement of the Graduate School may be waived upon demonstration of significant relevant professional experience (including advanced degrees), letters of recommendation and statement of interest in the degree program. Master of Science in Biomedical Science, Pre-Medical Postbac specialization - The Graduate School will accept either the GRE or MCAT admission test for admission to the Pre-Medical Post-baccalaureate specialization of the Master of Science in Biomedical Science, but students who enter the program with a GRE score will have the opportunity to take the MCAT following completion of the MCAT preparation provided during the program.
Master of Arts in Counseling - Human Services Applicants - Applicants may request a GRE waiver from the requirement of the Graduate School upon demonstration of an advanced degree from an accredited university.
Though the WFU Graduate School does not have a minimum test score for the GRE, in order to be competitive a combined score on the Verbal and Quantitative sections should be approximately 1100 for tests taken prior to August 2011, and 300-302 (50th percentile) for tests taken after August 1, 2011.
International Language Requirements (TOEFL / IELTS)
International students who did not graduate from colleges or universities within the U.S. and whose native language is not English must submit EITHER the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) OR the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
The minimum total score on the TOEFL is 550 (paper-based test), 213 (computer-based test), or 79-80 (internet-based). The minimum score on the IELTS is 6.5.
USMLE or ECFMG
These examinations (USMLE; ECFMG) may be used to replace the GRE requirement for an international applicant as long as all three of the following conditions are met:
applicant to the Clinical and Population Translational Science (CPTS) master's program;
applicant holds a medical degree from a foreign university;
is a current full-time employee of the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (faculty, medical intern, research fellow).
