Admission Requirements
In addition to the requirements below, you must also meet all program-specific requirements.
CHINA
In acknowledgement of the various grading scales used throughout China, the grading scale on the transcript will be used:
Grades are converted to 50% pass grade.
English Proficiency
Students attending Laurier must have excellent proficiency in the English language to benefit from university instruction.
If your first language is not English, you’ll be required to submit acceptable evidence of your English proficiency to our International Recruitment and Admissions office (address below). Normally, evidence of English proficiency is an acceptable score on one of the following tests (see exemptions below). You must make your own arrangements to write the test and have the results forwarded directly to our office.
ACCEPTED TESTING SERVICES
Some testing centres may require our institution code. Laurier’s code is 0893.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
Internet-based testing: an overall score of 83 or higher with a minimum score of 20 in each component.
Paper-based testing: 560 or higher.
An overall score of 90 with a minimum of 20 in Reading & Listening, and a minimum of 25 in Speaking & Writing is required for double-degree programs with the University of Waterloo.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
An academic score of 6.5 or higher.
An overall score of 7.0 is required for double-degree programs with the University of Waterloo.
Michigan Test of English Language Proficiency (MELAB)
85 overall or higher.
An overall score of 85 with a minimum of 80 in each component, and a minimum of 3 in Speaking for co-op programs, is required for double-degree programs with the University of Waterloo.
Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL)
70 overall or higher (each band 60 or higher).
An overall score of 70 with a minimum of 60 in Reading & Listening, and a minimum of 65 in Writing & Speaking is required for double-degree programs with the University of Waterloo.
Pearson Test of English Academic
59 overall or higher.
An overall score of 63 with a minimum of 65 in Writing & Speaking is required for double-degree programs with the University of Waterloo.
Cambridge English: Advanced (CEA)
Overall score of B.
