International Admission Requirements
The secondary school graduation certificate which would admit a student to an internationally recognized university in his or her home country is normally acceptable for admission to the University of Guelph. Please Note: possession of the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
China
Senior National High School Graduation Examinations and Chinese National University Entrance Examinations (NCEE). All original documents and English translations must be sent directly to Admission Services from the issuing institution. The NCEE is accepted only when sent through the China Academic Degrees & Graduate Education Development Centre (CDGDC):http://www.cdgdc.edu.cn/ . The Center will issue a sealed hard copy report for you to send to Admissions. In the absence of NCEE, SAT I and SAT II subject tests may be submitted for admission consideration.
English Proficiency Requirements
You will be required to present evidence of English Proficiency if:
your primary or first language is not English, and
your have had less than four years of full-time secondary school or post-secondary study, demonstrating satisfactory academic progress, in an English-language school system.
The University reserves the right to deny admission to you if you do not demonstrate satisfactory facility in English, regardless of academic qualifications.
Francophone Canadian citizens educated in Canada will not be required to meet the English Language Proficiency Requirement. You will also be considered as having met the Enlish Proficiency requirement if you completed the International Baccalaureate diploma where English was the language of instruction.
If you are required to provide evidence of English proficiency, you must meet one of the following four proficiency requirements:
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) :
Internet-based: minimum total score of 89 with no individual scaled score less than 21

The Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) with a minimum overall score of 85 and a minimum composition score of 83. In addition, you must present a minimum score on the oral test of three (3).
The Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) with a minimum overall band score of 70.
Successful completion of the University of Guelph, Open Learning Advanced Level of the English Language Certificate Program (Levels 9 and 10). For more information, contact the University of Guelph English Language Program (ESL).
The Pearson Test of English (PTE) with a minimum score of 60 and no score less than 60 for any individual component.
International Transfer Students: Minimum Grade Requirements
Note: Admission decisions for transfer students are neither automatic nor guaranteed. Each program and major have minimum entrance requirements that may vary depending upon the quantity of applications received and space availability.
University Minimum Requirements for Consideration
University transfer students are considered for all undergraduate programs. If you have completed a minimum of 2.0 credits (one semester) of study, you will be considered for admission to all entry points within available programs. Those with fewer are typically considered for Fall entry only. Depending on the program you have applied to, it may also be necessary to meet the high school requirements.
