Master of Arts (Research)
Entry requirements
You must have completed a three-year degree with a minimum average of 65% in the final year units of study. Other relevant experience will also be taken into account in assessing your application.
English language requirements
International applicants must provide evidence of one of the following:
A minimum IELTS overall band of 6.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 6.0 or a TOEFL iBT (internet-based) minimum score of 79 with no band less than 18, no longer than 24 months before submitting your application
Satisfactory completion of Swinburne’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP 5 Advanced level) with overall 70%, all skills 65%
Successful completion of a total of 24 months (full time equivalent) of formal study where the language of instruction and assessment was English at AQF level 7 or above (or equivalent) at an approved university no longer than 60 months before submitting your application.
Master of Arts (Writing)
Entry requirements
An appropriate honours degree or a four year undergraduate degree or equivalent. Applicants with an appropriate postgraduate diploma or equivalent are also eligible to apply. Special entry is also available through Recognition of Prior Learning and relevant experience. Entry points will vary according to Swinburne Exemption and RPL policies.

Master of Aviation (Management)
Entry requirements
To be eligible for consideration for entry, applicants are required to have a minimum Bachelor Honours qualification (AQF Level 8) or Graduate Diploma qualification (AQF Level 8) in any of the following disciplines:
- Aviation
- Business
- Economics
- Finance
- Management
- Law
- Marketing
- Engineering
Applicants who are currently enrolled in the Aviation (Management) postgraduate nested suite will be considered for entry into the Masters course upon meeting the academic requirements of the Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Management).
Note: Students currently enrolled in a lower level course of the nested suite may apply to progress to a higher level course with full credit.

A recognised bachelor degree in business as well as three years of managerial work experience.

Successful completion of the Graduate Certificate of Business Administration* or Graduate Diploma of Business Administration.
*Entry under this admission requirement would allow students to be awarded the Masters by successfully completing eight units of study.
Note: Applicants with a recognised bachelor degree in another discipline, as well as three years’ managerial work experience, may be admitted to the Graduate Certificate level.

Standard entry
Successful completion of an undergraduate degree in any discipline equivalent to an Australian Bachelor degree. Students with an undergraduate degree in IS or IT may be eligible for up to four exemptions and depending on the number of exemption(s) given, will need to complete at least 12 more units to qualify for the award or
Students with other tertiary degrees (i.e. graduate certificate, graduate diploma) in IS or IT may be eligible for exemptions on a case-by-case basis or
Successful completion of the Masters Qualifying Program
Special entry
A special entry provision is available for applicants without an appropriate qualification but who have significant relevant work experience (usually at least five years) and evidence of academic capability (e.g. successful completion of a Certificate or Diploma course at a TAFE with high grades or attaining a GMAT of 550 or higher). Such applicants may be eligible for admission to the Graduate Certificate of Business Information Systems.

Master of Design
Entry requirements
The minimum entry requirement for the Masters of Design is a recognised 3-year Bachelor of Design or equivalent, or the completion of the Graduate Certificate of Design or the Graduate Diploma of Design. Applicants who do not have a Bachelor of Design qualification but have a related qualification and work experience in a design-related field, will be required to submit a portfolio demonstrating their cognate skills and capabilities in design.
Related fields may include architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, digital arts, creative arts, multimedia or digital media, product design engineering, design technology, games and interactivity, and creative industries.

Master of Engineering (Civil)

Standard entry
The entry requirements for Master of Engineering (Civil) [or Master of Engineering Science (Civil)] are as follows:
a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) (Honours)* (minimum four years of full time study) degree or
a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Engineering (Civil) degree following on from a four-year Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree or
qualification deemed to be equivalent to any of the above.
* Applicants with a recognised Bachelor of Engineering Honours degree in an approved cognate field may be eligible for advanced standing.

Entry requirements
Students with a recognised bachelor degree or graduate diploma in computer science, information systems or information technology are eligible to complete the course within one to two years, depending on the number of exemptions they receive. Students with a recognised degree in a non-IT discipline will study a two-year program.
