  Taught postgraduate entry requirements

  You must have completed an undergraduate degree from the University of Auckland or a recognised university (or similar), with good academic grades. Some programmes may consider previous work experience.

  Taught programmes include graduate diplomas, postgraduate diplomas, bachelors (honours) degrees, and taught masters degrees. Masters degrees are usually either one-year (120 points), 18 months (180 points), or two-years (240 points), of full-time study. Some programme eligibility depends on prior study completed. A Taught Masters is usually comprised of taught courses, but may include a dissertation or research project of less than 90 points.

  Creative programmes such as architecture, fine arts, music, urban design, and writing require supplementary evidence of creative ability (eg, a portfolio or audition).

  Current students

  You must have completed a bachelors degree, typically with a GPA of 3.0.

  Prospective students

  You must have completed an undergraduate degree at a recognised university (or similar).

  You will typically require a GPE of 3.0. Some programmes may require higher scores.

  Postgraduate Diploma requirements

  Current students

  You must have completed a bachelors degree, typically with a GPA of 3.0 or 4.0 in Stage III courses relevant to your specialisation. Some programmes may require higher scores.

  Prospective students

  You must have completed an undergraduate degree at a recognised university (or similar) standing in a field relevant to your chosen specialisation.

  You will typically require a GPE of 3.0 or 4.0. Some programmes may require higher scores.

  Bachelors (honours) degree requirements

  Current students

  You must have completed a bachelors degree with a GPA of 5.0 in Stage III courses relevant to your specialisation. Some programmes may require higher scores, including the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Accounting or Finance.

  Prospective students

  You must have completed an undergraduate degree at a recognised university (or similar) in a field relevant to your chosen specialisation.

  You will typically require a GPE of 5.0. Some programmes may require higher scores, including the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Accounting or Finance.

  Masters degree (180 and 240 point) requirements

  Current students

  You must have completed a bachelors degree with a GPA of 5.0 in Stage III courses relevant to your specialisation. Some programmes may require higher scores, including the Master of Commerce in Accounting or Finance.

  Masters degree (120 point) requirements

  Current students

  You must have completed a bachelors (honours) degree or a postgraduate diploma in a field relevant to your chosen specialisation with a GPA of 5.0. If you are applying for the Master of Engineering Studies a GPA of 4.0 is required. Some programmes may require higher scores, including the Master of Commerce in Accounting or Finance.

  Prospective students

  You must have completed one year of postgraduate study, following an undergraduate degree, at a recognised university (or similar) in a field relevant to your chosen specialisation. Four year bachelors degrees will be considered where the final year consists of postgraduate-level study.

  You will typically require a GPE of 5.0. If you are applying for the Master of Engineering Studies a GPA of 4.0 is required. Some programmes may require higher scores, including the Master of Commerce in Accounting or Finance.

  Research postgraduate entry requirements

  You must have completed a bachelors (honours) degree or postgraduate diploma from the University of Auckland, or a postgraduate taught qualification from a recognised university (or similar).

  A Research Masters includes a thesis or research portfolio of at least 90 points.

  Masters degrees are usually either one-year (120 points), 18 months (180 points), or two-years (240 points), of full-time study. Eligibility depends on completed prior study. Not all programmes include all options.

  On completion of an undergraduate degree with good academic grades in a field relevant to your chosen specialisation, you may enter a 240 point, and specific 180 point, masters degrees. Previous work experience may be taken into account.

  Many programmes such as architecture, fine arts, music, urban design or writing, require supplementary evidence of creative ability (eg, a portfolio or audition). Check the faculty’s postgraduate prospectus or talk to a postgraduate adviser.

  Postgraduate English language requirements

  If you are an International applicant whose first language is not English, you must provide evidence of your English proficiency.

  English is considered the first language of citizens of the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, the United States of America and Canada. Domestic applicants who are under 20 years of age and whose first language is not English, may be asked to provide evidence of their competence in written and spoken English.

  English language tests and scores shown below meet our English language requirements. You must satisfy the requirements in one sitting, the results are valid for two years from the date on the test certificate. For Semester One commencement your English test must be dated on or after 1 January (two years prior), for Semester Two commencement your English test must be dated on or after 1 June (two years prior).

  Minimum postgraduate English language requirements for 2017

  IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.5 and all bands 6.0 or better

  Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 90 plus a written score of 21

  Paper-based TOEFL: Overall score of 575 plus Essay (TWE) of 4.5

  Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) and Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE): Overall score of 176 and all bands 169 or better

  Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Overall score of 58 and no PTE communicative skills score below 50. You must authorise the University to view and verify your PTE scores.

  Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): 85

  Programmes with higher requirements

  Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood, Primary, or Secondary)

  IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 7.0 and all bands 7.0 or better. Due to professional registration requirements, only IELTS can be accepted.

  Postgraduate programmes in Law

  IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 7.0 and all bands 6.5 or better

  Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 100 plus a written score of 24

  Paper-based TOEFL: Overall score of 600 plus Essay (TWE) of 5.0

  CAE and CPE: Overall score of 185 and all bands 176 or better

  PTE Academic: Overall score of 65 and no PTE communicative skills score below 58

  MELAB: 90

  Postgraduate programmes in Translation Studies (excluding the Master of Professional Studies in Translation)

  IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 7.0 and all bands 6.5 or better

  Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 100 plus a written score of 24

  Paper-based TOEFL: Overall score of 600 plus Essay (TWE) of 5.0

  CAE and CPE: Overall score of 185 and all bands 176 or better

  PTE Academic: Overall score of 65 and no PTE communicative skills score below 58

  IELTS (Academic): 7.5 in the oral band

  Master of Audiology

  Master of Health Sciences (Nutrition and Dietetics)

  CAE and CPE: Overall score of 191 and all bands 185 or better

  Master of Professional Studies in Translation

  IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 7.0 and all bands 6.5 or better. Alternatively, for non-native speakers of English, at least three years of tertiary education in the English medium.

  Master of Social Work (Professional)

  IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 7.0 and all bands 6.5 or better. Due to professional registration requirements, only IELTS can be accepted.

  Master of Speech Language Therapy Practice

  IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 7.5 and all bands 7.0 or better

  Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 106 plus a written score of 24

  Paper-based TOEFL: Overall score of 625 plus Essay (TWE) of 5.0

  CAE and CPE: Overall score of 191 and all bands 185 or better

  PTE Academic: Overall score of 73 and no PTE communicative skills score below 65

  Master of Teaching (Primary or Secondary)

  IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 7.5 and all bands 7.0 or better. Due to professional registration requirements, only IELTS can be accepted.
