Taught Master's
Whether you are looking at a Master’s degree by taught, taught and research or research only, you will need a relevant degree with a B grade average in your 300-level courses and final year (full-time equivalent).
Taught Master’s degree are usually 12 months full-time in duration and are similar to bachelor’s degrees in that they are delivered and assessed through a series of taught modules and may include independent research in the specialised subject area.
You will need to apply online and submit:
Birth certificate or passport (original or verified copy of your birth certificate or passport, showing the same name that is on your academic documents)
Academic transcripts.
These must be:
Official copies or certified copies of all tertiary education qualifications either completed or partially completed and include the grading scale
Transcripts must be in original language and official translation.
You must also provide confirmation that the qualifications have been awarded. Please include one of the following:
Award Certificate
Statement on the transcript
Letter from the awarding institution.
Curriculum Vitae (including a statement of your career intentions)
Should be brief and must include tertiary education and any employment or project experience
Reference (one reference) required for the following 'taught' programmes:
MLA (Taught)
MPlanning
MDesign.
Statement of Research required for the following taught progammes:
MDes applicants must submit a 'Statement of Design Interest' (Word 4MB)
MPlanning applicants must submit a 'Statement of Research Interest for the Dissertation' (Word 4MB).
Research Master's
Lincoln's Masters by Research only (120 credits) requires one year of full-time study. To apply you must have an appropriate/relevant postgraduate honours degree with second class honours, division one or its equivalent (or higher).
You need to apply online and submit:
Birth certificate or passport (original or verified copy of your birth certificate or passport, showing the same name that is on your academic documents)
Academic transcripts.
These must be:
Official copies or certified copies of all tertiary education qualifications either completed or partially completed and include the grading scale
Transcripts must be in original language and official translation.

References (two references)
At least one or both of your referees should be in a position to comment on your academic performance and ability to complete the degree and at least one or both must be familiar with your recent work. If you have completed a thesis, dissertation or project we will expect your supervisor to provide a reference. This referee form (Word 97KB) is to be uploaded and supplied to the referees.
Your application can be processed more quickly if these confidential reports are sent to us either in sealed envelopes or e-mailed to Mylinc@lincoln.ac.nz These references must be signed and dated to enable assessment.
A research abstract of previous project/dissertation or thesis
If applying to the Faculty of Agribusiness and Commerce, a Full Thesis is required and you will be required to submit an electronic copy of master’s thesis or honours dissertation. Applicants for a masters must also refer to the Postgraduate Handbook (PDF 2MB).
English Language Requirements
Whether you are an international student or a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, if English is your first language you meet our English language requirement.
However, if English is not your first language you will need to establish that your English is good enough to study successfully at university.
All tuition at Lincoln University is in English, although some programmes may, in part, be taught in Te Reo Māori.
It is expected that all students will be able to:
• Write clear and grammatically correct English in essays, assignments, reports and exams
• Read English with understanding, find relevant information without assistance, comprehend and analyse a line of argument
• Listen actively and discern key points in English; follow complex and technical discussion in lectures and small groups
• Speak freely and clearly in English; actively engage in large and small group discussion
