This scholarship is available to privately financed international students who are already enrolled at a Japanese university. Yokohama National University selects candidates and recommends them to MEXT by the following procedure.

Application Procedures
Please submit the “Registration Form for University Screening Scholarship for Fall Semester” to the International Student Support Section between July and the end of September. For details, please refer to the website of theInternational Student Support Section.
Please check the above website and bulletin boards on campus in October and come to the International Student Support Section to sign up for application during the designated application period.
The International Student Support Section selects those who are ranked high on the list of students registered for university screening scholarship and ask them to submit the prescribed application form and go through an interview. The university then selects certain number of students and recommends them to MEXT.
The result is notified to the candidates by MEXT through Yokohama National University in February.

1.请于七月到九月末将“秋季入学大学奖学金筛选登记表”提交给国际学生支助部。(详情参看国际学生支助部网站。)
2.请于十月到上述网站或校园公告栏核实，并在规定的时间内到国际学生支助部进行申请。
3.国际学生支助部选出登记大学奖学金筛选列表中排名高的学生，要求他们提交规定的申请表并参加面试。随后，学校选出一定数量的学生，并推荐给文部科学省。
4.文部科学省的结果由横滨国立大学告知候选人。告知时间为二月。

Application for the following fiscal year (for those arriving in Japan in October) is open between December of the previous year and the following February, and the primary screening (documentary examination, written test and interview) is conducted between mid-February and March at local Japanese embassies. Selected candidates are recommended to MEXT through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the end of April. MEXT then conducts a secondary screening and selects those applicants who have found recipient universities as scholarship grantees.
As for Japanese Studies Students, YNU also accepts the students from partner universities by “University Recommendation”. If you are interested, please contact the study abroad coordinator of your university.

Application for the following fiscal year (April, in principle) is open between March and May and the initial screening (documentary examination, written test and interview) is conducted at the local Japanese embassies between June and August. The embassies then recommend the selected candidates to MEXT through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the beginning of September. MEXT then conducts a secondary screening and selects those applicants who have found recipient universities as scholarship grantees.

Completing a one-year preparatory education, grantees go on to the university designated by MEXT upon passing its entrance examination. The university whose examination a grantee will take will be decided by MEXT according to the results of the academic examination in the primary screening held in his/her home country, academic achievement at the preparatory school, the grantee’s proposed major subject, and the receiving capacity of the university.
Yokohama National University participates in the briefings for MEXT undergraduate students held in Tokyo and Osaka; if you are interested in studying at our university, please visit our booth at the fairs.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES JAPANESE GOVERNMENT (MEXT) SCHOLARSHIP FOR 2017 (TEACHER TRAINING STUDENTS)
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships to foreign teachers who wish to conduct research on school education at Japanese universities as follows:

文部科学省为有意在日本大学从事学校教育研究的国外学生提供奖学金，具体方案如下(这里只介绍资格条件);
QUALIFICATIONS
MEXT accepts applications from international students for study in Japan. Our aim is to foster human resources who will become bridges of friendship between your country and Japan through study in Japan and who will contribute to the development of both countries and the wider world.
(1) Nationality： Applicants must have the nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japanese government. An applicant who has Japanese nationality at the time of application is not eligible. However, persons with dual nationality who hold Japanese nationality and whose place of residence at the time of application is outside of Japan are eligible to apply as long as they give up their Japanese nationality and choose the nationality of the foreign country by the date of their arrival in Japan. Applicant screening will be conducted at the Japanese Embassy or Consulate (hereinafter referred to “Japanese diplomatic mission”) in the country of applicant’s nationality.
(2) Age：Applicants, in principle, must be born on or after April 2, 1982.
(3) Academic and Career Background ：Applicants must be graduates of universities or teacher training schools and have worked as teachers at primary/secondary educational institutions or teacher training schools (excluding universities) in their home countries for five years in total as of April 1, 2017. In-service university faculty members are not eligible.
(4) Japanese Language Ability： Applicants must be keen to learn Japanese. Applicants must be interested in Japan and be keen to deepen their understanding of Japan after arriving in Japan. Applicants must also have the ability to do research and adapt to living in Japan.
(5) Health： Applicants must be judged that they are medically adequate to pursue study in Japan by an examining physician on a prescribed certificate of health.
(6) Arrival in Japan： Applicants must be able to arrive in Japan by the designated period(usually October) between the day two weeks before the course starts and the first day of the course. (If the applicant arrives in Japan before this period for personal reasons, travel expenses to Japan will not be paid. Excluding cases of unavoidable circumstances, if the applicant cannot arrive in Japan by the end of the designated period the applicant must withdraw the offer.)
(7) Visa acquisition： Applicants should, in principle, acquire “Student” visas before entering Japan and enter Japan with “Student” residence status. The visas should be issued at the Japanese diplomatic missions located in the country of applicants’ nationality. Those who change their visa status to one other than “Student” after arrival in Japan will lose their qualification to be Japanese Government Scholarship recipients from the date when their visa status changes.

1.国籍。申请人所在国家必须与日本政府有外交关系。申请之时国籍为日本的申请人不能申请。申请之时国籍为双重国籍(有一国为日本)且居住在日本以外的申请人，只要在达到日本之前放弃日本国籍并选择外国国籍，就可以申请。申请人筛选由日本使馆或领事馆实施;地点为申请国籍显示的国家。
2.年龄。原则上，申请人出生日期不能早于1982年4月2日。
3.学术和职业背景。申请人必须为大学或师范类院校毕业生，并且截至2017年4月1日，在自己国家中学或师范院校(院校)担任教师5年时间。在职大学教职工不能申请。
4.日语资格。申请人必须对日语学习敏感;必须对日本感兴趣，必须有兴趣在达到日本之后加深对日本的理解。同时，申请人必须有能力从事研究，能适应在日本的生活。
5.健康。申请人必须接受医生的检查，在规定的健康证上被认定为医学上适合在日本从事研究。
6.达到日本。申请人必须有能力在开课之前的两周到开课前的一天这段时间到达日本。如果申请人由于个人原因在上述时间之前到达日本，则不报销旅费。除非是不可避免的情况，否则如果申请人不能在规定时间达到日本，录取将被取消。
7.签证。原则上，申请人在入境日本之前需要持有学生签证，入境日本之时需要持有学生居留证。签证由日本驻华使馆签发。达到日本之后，签证身份改变，不再为学生身份的学生，自签证身份改变之时起，失去享受日本政府奖学金的资格。
