Students from around the world can come to the ENS de Lyon as part of an exchange program, through the school's competitive entrance exam or based on their academic record.
They can apply for a Master's, enroll in a PhD or carry out an internship in one of the school's laboratories.
Study programs are tailored to students' individual needs and various scholarships can help them fund their stay in France.
Bachelor
Undergraduate courses leading to a Bachelor's in Science and technology and designed as a preparation to Master's degrees: Biosciences, Fundamental Computer Science, Fundamental Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry, Earth Sciences.
Master
With dozens of Masters in exact sciences and humanities, the ENS de Lyon offers à la carte training and values interdisciplinary approaches. These degrees are co-accredited with partner universities.
PhD
The PhD generally requires three years of research work and specific training in the form of tuition or participation in seminars. Each doctoral thesis is supervised by a director and prepared within one of the ENS de Lyon’s research labs.
Agrégation
Specific training for students preparing for the competitive examination of France's highest teaching qualification, the agrégation, in 16 subjects. These courses and the agrégation exam require students to be perfectly fluent in French.
Library
The library of the ENS de Lyon is home to some 1.2 million documents and electronic resources that can be consulted by anyone. Students, teachers and researchers from Lyon and its region can borrow titles from Monday through Friday 9am - 7pm and Saturday 9am - 5pm.
The Diderot library is deployed on two sites, Descartes and Monod.

Soon the ENS became home to the nation's leading research and intellectual life: famous alumni of France's oldest ENS, the ENS Ulm in Paris, include Louis Pasteur, Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone Weil.
Building on this first success, other ENS were created in the late 19th century with the mission to train the future teachers of France's primary and secondary education system: in Fontenay-aux-Roses for young women and in Saint-Cloud for young men.
