　　Delivery of teaching and research across the University is divided into three academic faculties.

　　Our three academic faculties are:

　　Our mission is to build on our teaching and research excellence in developing an innovative, multidisciplinary approach to researching and teaching all aspects of architecture, planning, urban design and landscape architecture.

　　The broad emphasis of the School is on making and sustaining places that enhance the quality of life for present and future generations. Much of our teaching focuses on developing professionals who can contribute to making places and buildings that enrich our society.

　　Teaching and research

　　We offer undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes which have been devised by some of the leading researchers in their fields. Our academics have written a number of core teaching textbooks used around the UK.

　　Our teaching programmes are accredited by and have recognition from The Royal Institute of British Architects, The Royal Town Planning Institute, Architects Registration Board and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

　　Our Research is ranked 4th in the UK for intensity and power in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF).

　　In both teaching and research, we strive for 'excellence with impact'. Both strands of our work are influenced by each other. We place emphasis on working in partnership with people, communities and organisations outside academia.

　　We're a multidisciplinary School offering teaching and research in the following areas: Fine Art; Media, Culture, Heritage; and Music.

　　We have a clear commitment to developing excellence across our undergraduate and postgraduate curricula. Our students are taught by internationally renowned researchers and have access to excellent facilities.

　　All of our students benefit from our superb research culture. Our activities provide a bridge between academic research and teaching and the wider world of culture, heritage and the arts.

　　The University is consistently ranked highly in league tables. 　　School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics

　　The School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics is a highly successful school with a long and prestigious history. Each year we attract excellent students and staff from around the world.

　　Student satisfaction

　　Consistently strong performances in the National Student Survey reflect the excellent quality of our teaching and wealth of opportunities and facilities available to our students. In the 2016/17 survey, 93% of all our third year students were “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with their course.

　　The successes of former students give us further evidence of the quality of work we do in our school. We know once they graduate, our alumni go on to have successful careers in the arts, business, education, the law and public service. These professions all require them to draw on the skills, experience and knowledge gained while studying with us.

　　The School of History, Classics and Archaeology is part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Newcastle University.

　　You can find us in the elegant and imposing Armstrong Building, in the heart of the University's city campus. We're a stone's throw from the Students' Union, and only five minutes' walk from the University library.
