Life in SouthamptonSouthampton is a vibrant and well-connected, dynamic city. Home to two universities, there is a population of over 30,000 students. Our students benefit from campuses based in and around the city, all connected with award-winning transport links.One of Britain’s top five cities for economic growth.£1.6bn has gone to develop the city, with a Cultural Centre being built and a new £70 million leisure complex. This facility includes new entertainment venues, restaurants, cafes, a luxury cinema and shops. This is part of a £3bn masterplan to help develop and improve the city.Excellent for sailing and water sports.As part of the Solent, Southampton is a great place to take part in a variety of water and sailing sports. You can visit the Isle of Wight for Cowes Week, one of the biggest sailing events of the year in the south. The University's Water Sports and sailing centre page lists all the available watersports activites and courses.Central hub for travelling.Students can travel to cities across the south by train or ferry. You can visit popular cities such as Bournemouth, Brighton, London and Portsmouth from Southampton Central train station. Southampton Airport and Red Funnel ferries give access to international locations.
Highfield:The bustling Highfield Campus provides the perfect opportunity to get a feel for student life. Take a walk in the scenic gardens where you can find a spot to relax and catch up on reading, absorb the mixture of classical and modern architecture and or meet friends at the buzzing central piazza where the Student Union hosts a variety of events.Avenue:A 15 minute walk from Highfield, nestled in the green surroundings of Southampton common is Avenue Campus, home to the Faculty of Humanities. The campus has its own library. As a student you can enjoy the pleasant surroundings of the well-designed architecture while eating in the Avenue Cafe.Boldrewood:Boldrewood campus was created through a partnership between the University and Lloyds Register. The modern architecture houses some of the University’s engineering facilities. Get inspired by the unique backdrop while sitting on the campus’ main plaza. The campus is an 11 minute walk from Highfield which means you can use the facilities between studying.Waterfront:The University of Southampton’s Waterfront campus, based at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS) is home to Ocean and Earth Science, one of the leading marine and earth research centres in the UK. The building itself is unique in its location and community as it holds access to a wealth of cutting-edge facilities, a fleet of research vessels and globally leading experts in their fields.
