Texas Tech University is located on the South Plains of West Texas in Lubbock . As the University was being established, several potential locations, including Floydada, Plainview, Big Spring, and Sweetwater were considered, before Lubbock was selected.
Facilities
The campus, which boasts Spanish Renaissance architecture, was described by American author James A. Michener as the “most beautiful west of the Mississippi until you get to Stanford” and by Stewart Mandel of Sports Illustrated as “easily one of the ten most beautiful campuses” he had seen. Many of the newly constructed buildings qualify for LEED certification, yet maintain the consistent Spanish theme throughout campus.

In fall 2016, a record 36,551 students were enrolled in the University. Of those, 29,963 were undergraduate, 6,058 graduate, and 530 law students. Hispanic students make up 22.4 percent of the overall percentage, while Caucasian students account for 58.3 percent. Nearly 2,100 students identified as foreign.

The Texas Tech University College of Arts & Sciences was founded in 1925 as one of the university's four original colleges. The Honors College at Texas Tech University proudly pursues its primary mission to provide an enriched learning experience for intellectually capable and curious undergraduate students while striving to replicate a small-college learning environment in a large state university setting.
The Honors College offers enriched and stimulating courses that are designed to encourage critical thinking, broaden students’ education, and examine interdisciplinary and international perspectives of different disciplines. In addition, the Honors College supports undergraduate research, study-abroad, academic scholarships, and a variety of academic and social activities for enrolled students.
