1.首先你得知道信要写给谁。
可能是个人，委员会或者直接写＂To Whom it May Concern＂。同时，确定一下推荐信应该和申请文件一起发还是单独发到招生办公室里。
2. 招生办感兴趣的部分包括：
申请人的主动性、贡献、学业成绩和诚信度。荣誉、获奖还有特别奖项也应该提到。最重要的是，学校想知道你为什么认为这个申请对学校、对申请人都有利？
3. 推荐信不易过长。
简洁明了是最好不过了。信里要有问候和详细介绍，推荐人和申请人是如何认识，你们之间是什么关系。信的内容里，给出反映申请人品质的例子，要能够吸引学校。结束前，提一下你为什么会认为申请人有优势，如果有必要的话进一步说一下这些优势。

如果你的推荐信是要给某一个人的，你应该加上称呼，例如dear dr. smith， dear mr. jones，等等。如果你的推荐信非常general，你在称呼的地方写to whom it may concern 或者不写称呼也可以。

推荐信的第一段应该说明你和被推荐人的关系，包括你是怎么认识他/她的，还有你写这封推荐信的资格。
