　　I'm Carl Azuz with CNN STUDENT NEWS.

　　And I'm we're jumping right in to our current events coverage with the report involving the European Union. It's an organization of 28 countries. It's holding a meeting in Brussels, Belgium this week.

　　And one of the major topics on its agenda is Europe's ongoing migrant and refugee crisis. There are more people streaming into Europe now than at any point since the Second World War, and there are a lot of disagreements among E.U. members and their citizens about how to address the situation.

　　Another topic involves whether Britain will ultimately remain part of the European Union. Because this is an economic cooperation, the stakes are high.

　　We've got a lot lined up for you today on CNN STUDENT NEWS, starting with the report on Tropical Cyclone Winston. It was the most powerful storm ever recorded in the southern hemisphere. It made landfall in the Pacific island country of Fiji on Saturday.

　　Winston killed at least 10 people when it roared through. Trees are down. Power is out. All of Fiji schools are close this week. A state of emergency will be in effect for a month.

　　Now, the challenge is prioritizing clean up efforts. Officials are most concerned about some of Fiji's smaller villages. They didn't have the infrastructure to withstand the storm's 184-mile-per-hour winds.

　　Winston was the equivalent of a category 5 hurricane. As for the difference between that and a cyclone, it's just geography.

　　There's a legal case playing out between the U.S. government and the technology company and it's lit up a nationwide debate about national security versus information privacy.

　　Syed Farook was one of the two of the terrorists who carried out an attack in California that killed 14 people in December. The federal bureau of investigation recovered his iPhone and a U.S. court has ordered the Apple company to help agents hacked it, to get more information about the terrorists and his plans.

　　But Apple has refused, saying civil liberties are at stake and that helping the government would make its products more vulnerable to cyber crime. The company has until Friday to formally respond to the ruling in court.

　　CNN's Laurie Segall is exploring both sides of this controversy.

　　Our first story centers on a detention facility, a prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. It's operated by the United States. It's part of the U.S. naval base on land that America has leased from Cuba since 1903.

　　To start, we're covering the plan. Yesterday, President Obama called for the detention facility at Guantanamo to be closed. The U.S. government has identified 13 potential places where officials can transfer the remaining prisoners. There are about 91 of them there.

　　But no specific location was proposed. This isn't the first time the president has pushed for Guantanamo's closure.

　　JULIETTE KAYYEM, CNN NATIONAL SECURITY ANALYST: When President Obama was elected in 2008, he vowed that he will close Guantanamo Bay within a year.

　　First up, severe weather. While folks in Indiana and Illinois were concerned about possible blizzard conditions last night, tornado watches and warning stretched along the U.S. East Coast one day after this happened.

　　Twisters caused severe damage across the south Tuesday. Parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida were all hit. As many as 25 tornadoes were reported. At least three people were killed and dozens of others were injured.

　　Florida's governor declared a state of emergency in two counties to speed up government help to people there. Cars were flipped, trees were flung, apartment buildings were crushed in communities along the Florida Panhandle.

　　Jennifer Gray looks at what's done in the days immediately following a disaster.

　　We're starting in the Middle East today. Our first story is from Iran. Since last summer, we've been reporting on the controversial nuclear deal between Iran and several other countries led by the U.S. The agreement removed international sanctions on Iran, allowing billions of dollars to flow into its economy. In exchange, Iran is required to significantly limit its nuclear program.

　　But while supporters and critics butted heads in the U.S. about whether this agreement was acceptable, the deal was controversial in Iran, too. And with the nation voting today on the make up of its parliament, its Iran's parliamentary election after the nuclear deal went into effect.

　　Fred Pleitgen is there in the Iranian capital reporting on how the issue factors into the vote.
