A
Last Saturday on the way to the mall, two children, a boy and a girl, came running towards me with bottles on their hands, asking if I wanted bottled water. It was a surprising gesture. I was wondering if they were doing fund-raising. I knelt and asked them where their parents were and how much a bottle of water cost. Then two adult women came up to me explaining what the children were doing. “We are teaching the children to give without anything in return. We are teaching people to accept without giving in return.”
This incident excited me and in an instant I wanted to ask these strangers several questions: How did you do it? What made you do it? What are the reactions did you get from other people? How many bottles did you give away? How many bottles have you left? When did you start? Finally, I gave them a chance to respond to my questions. Two mothers bought bottled water and placed a sticker on all bottles with five different quotes:
1. Smile at everyone, you’ll never know when someone may need it.
2. If Plan A does not work, there are 25 more letters in the alphabets.
3. Have a thirst for life. Every day is filled with possibilities.
4. In your thirst for knowledge, be sure you don’t drown in all the information.
5. Dig your well before you’re thirsty.
The bottle I have has quote No.5. A sudden change of attitude opened up between me, the mothers and the children. We are no longer strangers to each other. We were having such a great time chatting and I ended up helping them give away the rest of the bottled water.
One young lady was so thankful that she happily accepted the water and said it was the best thing that happened to her all day since she had a bad day at work. A man refused and walked away saying no thanks. A couple kept on bowing to us in gratitude. When it was all done, the children and I were giving each other high-five. It was so much fun. I think I had more fun doing this than the mothers and the children.
61. How did the author feel when he was offered bottled water?
A. Embarrassed. B. Surprised. C. Strange. D. Doubtful.
62. What’s the purpose of children giving bottled water to the passers-by?
A. They are asked to collect money by selling water.
B. They want people to see the stickers on the bottle.
C. They are taught to learn to give without any reward.
D. They want to test people’s reaction when they receive water.
63. Different quotes were placed on the bottles to _______.
A. inspire others to think positively
B. encourage more people to help others
C. explain why they give away bottled water
D. show how we can live in harmony with others

A. Buy the rest of the bottled water. B. Give away some money for charity

C. People responded quite differently to this activity.
D. The author learned a lot from this random act of kindness.

SAN FRANCISCO—A phone app(应用程序)in San Francisco gives information about open parking spots. City officials in San Francisco introduced the app to try to reduce traffic jams in the city, but some say it raises safety concerns.
In this city, drivers searching for parking spots lead to 30 percent of all downtown jams, city officials think .Now San Francisco has found a solution — a phone app for spot-seekers that displays information about areas with available spaces. The system, introduced last month, relies on wireless sensors(感应器)fixed in streets and city garages that can tell within seconds if a spot has opened up.
Monique Soltani, a TV reporter, said she and her sister spent 25 minutes on Friday trying to park. “We were praying to the parking god that we’d find a spot,” she said. “If we had the app, we would not have to pray to the parking god.” But the system could come with serious consequences.
Some people say that drivers searching for parking could end up focusing on their phones, not the road. “It could be really distracting(使分心的),” said Daniel Simons, a professor of psychology at the University of Illinois.
City officials acknowledge the potential problem. They are urging drivers to pull over before they use the city’s iPhone app, or to do so before they leave home. Nathaniel Ford, executive director of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, said safety could actually improve if drivers quickly found a spot instead of circling and getting frustrated.
San Francisco has put sensors into 7,000 parking spots and 12,250 spots in city garages. If spaces in an area open up, the sensors communicate wirelessly with computers that in turn make the information ava ilable to app users within a minute, said Mr.Ford, of the transportation agency. On the app, a map shows which blocks have lots of places(blue)and which are full(red).
More than 12,000 people have downloaded San Francisco’s app, which is available now only for the iPhone but which city officials say they hope to bring to all similar devices.
When it is started up, the city’s parking app warns drivers not to use the system while in motion. But safety advocates said that might not be sufficient. After all, they say, texting while driving is illegal in California and in many states, but a number of surveys, including one by the Pew Research Center, show that many Americans do it anyway.
Elizabeth Stampe, executive director of Walk San Francisco, a pedestrian advocacy group, said she hoped the new parking app would lead to fewer accidents.
“It’s an innovative idea,” she said. “The safe way for people to use the device is for them to pull over, which they know they should do. The question is whether they will.”
But Ms.Soltani, the TV reporter, said using the app would probably join the group of activities already performed by drivers.
“We’re already looking at Google Maps and Facebook on the phone while we drive,” she said. “Aren’t we always looking at something on our phone, or changing the radio, or drinking coffee? You’re always slightly distracted when you’re driving.”
70.What is the phone app mentioned in the text mainly aimed at?
A. Preventing traffic accidents. B. Making full use of the parking spots.
C. Making the traffic flow smoothly. D. Benefiting iPhone users.
71.How do drivers locate the parking spots?
A. App ---- computer ---- sensors. B. Sensors ---- computers ---- app.
C. Computers ---- app ---- sensors. D. Sensors ---- app ---- computers.
72.The phone app mentioned in the text ________.
A. hasn’t been put into service B. is a bit slow in reacting
C. was introduced several years ago D. can’t be downloaded to all phones
73.Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?
A. Nathaniel Ford doesn’t doubt the practical use of the app.
B. San Francisco will put more sensors into use.
C. Most drivers open the app once they start their cars.
D. Daniel Simons thinks the app convenient.
74.What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. Safety concerns are voiced about a phone app aimed at helping drivers find parking spots.
B. A phone app has been introduced to relieve the pressure on traffic in the city.
C. Looking for parking spots contributes greatly to downtown traffic jams.
D. Drivers’ attention is distracted in one way or another when they are driving.

One evening a few years ago I found myself in an anxiety. Nothing was really wrong my family and I were healthy, my career was busy and successful — I was just feeling down and in need of a friend who could raise my spirits, someone who would meet me for coffee and let me shout until the clouds lifted. I dialed my best friend, who now lives across the country in California, and got her voicemail. That’s when it started to dawn on me — loneliness was at the root of my sadness. My social life had lessened to almost nothing, but somehow until that moment I’d been too busy to notice. Now it hit me hard. My old friends, buddies since college or even childhood, know everything about me; when they left, they had taken my context with them.
Research has shown the long-range negative consequences of social isolation on one’s health. So I resolved to acquire new friends — women like me who had kids and enjoyed rolling their eyes at the world a little bit just as I did. Since I’d be making friends with more intention than I’d ever given the process, I realized I could be selective, that I could in effect design my own social life. The down side, of course, was that I felt pretty frightened.
After all, it’s a whole lot harder to make friends in midlife than it is when yon’re younger — a fact women I’ve spoken with point out again and again. As Leslie Danzig, 41, a Chicago theater director and mother, sees it, when you’re in your teens and 20s, you’re more or less friends with everyone unless there’s a reason not to be. Your college roommate becomes your best pal at least partly due to proximity (亲近). Now there needs to be a reason to be friends. “There are many people I’m comfortable around, but I wouldn’t go so far as to call them friends. Comfort isn’t enough to maintain a real friendship,” Danzig says.
At first, finding new companions felt awkward. At 40 I couldn’t run up to people the way my 4-year-old da ughters do on the playground and ask, “Will you be my friend? Every time you start a new relationship, you’re vulnerable(易受伤的)again,” agrees Kathleen Hall, D Min, founder and CEO of the Stress Institute, in Atlanta. “You’re asking, ‘Would you like to come into my life?’ It makes us self-conscious.”
Fortunately, my discomfort soon passed. I realized that as a mature friend seeker my vulnerability risk was actually pretty low. If someone didn’t take me up on my offer, so what: I wasn’t in junior high, when I might have been rejected for having the wrong clothes or hair. At my age I have gathered enough self-esteem (自尊) to realize that I have plenty to offer.
A new friend, chosen right, can help you turn over a new leaf and point your boat in the direction you want to go. Hanna Dershowitz, 39, an attorney and mother in Los Angeles, found that a new acquaintance from work was exactly what she needed in a friend. In addition to liking and respecting Julia, Dershowitz had a feeling that the fit and athletic younger woman would help her to get in shape.
While you’re busy making new friends, remember that you still need to care for your old ones. We asked Marla Paul, author of The Friendship Crisis, for the best ways to maintain these important relationships. Keep in touch. Your friends should be a priority; schedule regular lunch dates or coffee catch-up sessions, no matter how busy you are. Know her business. Keep track of important events in a friend’s life and show your support. Call or e-mail to let her know you’re thinking of her. Speak your mind. Tell a friend (politely) if something she did really upset you. If you can’t be totally honest, then you need to reexamine the relationship. Accept her flaws. No one is perfect, so work around her quirks (怪癖) – she’s often late, or she’s a bit negative — to cut down on frustration and fights. Boost her ego. Heartfelt praises make everyone feel great, so tell her how much you love her new sweater or what a great job she did on a work project.
75. What is the major function of the first paragraph?
A. To summarize the whole passage.
B. To introduce the topic of the passage.
C. To tell the readers why we need friends.
D. To inform the readers of what the author is.
76. The author decided to make some new friends because ________.
A. she felt down and needed a friend to cheer her up
B. her best friend left her and took everything away
C. her friends didn’t have kids and enjoy the world
D. she knew no friends around had a bad effect on her health
77. Leslie Danzig thinks making friends at one’s middle age ________.
A. is easier than that at a young age B. needs some reasons
C. makes others feel comfortable D. isn’t a real friendship
78. According to the passage, with newly made friends, you can have a chance to _______.
A. take on a new look in your life B. get rid of your bad habits
C. lose more old friends D. gather enough self-esteem
79. In Mafia Paul’s book, to be a better friend, you should NOT ________.
A. keep track with your friends B. care for your friend’s job
C. help your friend to become perfect D. Praise your friend for her good dressing
80. What can be the best title of the passage?
A. A Mature Friend Seeker B. A Well-chosen Friend
C. Mid-life Friendship D. The Art of Friendship
第二节:下面文章中有5处(第81–85题)需要添加小标题。请从以下选项(A、B、C、D、E和F)中选出符合各段意思的小标题,并在答题纸上将相应的位置上。选项中有一项是多余选项。
A. Know what can be recycled.
B. Set up your own recycling model.
C. Help to see its benefits.
D. Find out recycling programs.
E. Get active, not frustrated.
F. Spread the word.
Recycling is one means of ensuring that the items we’ve finished using get returned to the resources pool and either get turned into something else or are cleaned and reused. Recycling helps to save on additional energy. Recycling also reduces the amount of material and lessens pollution involved in waste disposal (处理). Once you know how to recycle, you’ll realize it’s not that hard and it soon becomes second habit.
81. ______________
If you have the time, become a champion for recycling by informing community groups, school children, pre-school groups and other interested groups of the values of recycling and how people can make it easier to do. For activities with children and teens, there are good books and videos that you can use and consider bringing along people from the recycling industry to talk about their role and what they do.
82. ______________
Many items are recyclable and over time, more items are added to the list of what can be recycled. Although recycling is dependent on your local conditions, as a general rule, most of the following items are recyclable but you do need to read the policies relevant in your area. Some items can’t be recycled for reasons ranging from complexity to hazards (危险). Although technology continues to change all the time (in which case, keep an eye on what new items can be recycled), there are still some items that cannot be recycled. Don’t put these into the recycling containers because they create problems and can potentially pollute the recyclables too.
83. ______________
Recycling takes up space in the home, so it’s important to work out how to deal with this in a way that doesn’t impact living area space or create danger in any way. There are lots of great choices that you can either buy or make to keep recycling sorted and safe within your home before putting it out for collection. Some of your choices may depend on the preferences of the collector––in some areas, mixing recyclables is just fine, while in others, they’ll only collect separated recyclables or perhaps only collect different types of recyclables on different weeks. If mixing your recycling is not an option, you’ll need some extra sorting space.
84. ______________
It is always easier to find holes in commitments to change our practices; it’s a natural human reaction. In the case of recycling, there will always be those who inform you ever so seriously that recycling uses too much energy, that recycled products have to travel far dista nces, etc. But it is far better to be devoted to getting on with it than to be crying about the uselessness of it all! Moreover, the benefits of recycling, particularly in the areas of job creation, pollution reduction and general community safety, outweigh its negativity.
85. ______________
Recycling can turn somewhat frustrating if you’re in a city with very strict boundaries on what can and cannot be recycled due to lack of local facilities. And the more dangerous the waste, the harder it can be to recycle, although many facilities are cropping up to deal with batteries, electronics, and the like. However, it is important to find ways to work around such issues, that work for both you and your community. You can ask for more and better recycling facilities positively through a demonstration of community support, and it’s more likely that your area will get them and that the recycling will become easier for your community.

2015年温州十校联合体高三(下)期初英语答案
书面表达:
Nowadays, with the fierce competition in study, a lot of high school students suffer from great mental pressure. Due to it, the Students union will hold a Psychological Health Week next week, the theme of which is “ How to Relieve Mental Pressure ”.
In the Psychological Health Week, there will be various kinds of activities. A lecture given by a psychological professor on how how to deal with pressure of study will provide us with professional psychological guidance. There also will be a drama which will show us an excellent performance. In addition, a debate on “ Pressure , Good or Bad ?” will be expected between Grade One and Grade Two.
I firmly believe the mental health is of great importance for everyone, especially us high school students. Under heavy pressure, we may feel discouraged and stressed. Thus, the Psychological Health Week is really beneficial for us to relieve mental pressure and make it motivation for our harder study.

M:Excuse me,madam. Can you tell me how to get to Sun College? I'm walking.
W:Well,I think the simplest way for you is to go up to Main Street over there. Turn left on Main Street and keep going for about 20 minutes. When you get to Water Square, turn right. Keep on,past the Mass Hospital,to the end of the road, and then take a left turn. You'll be on Rain Avenue. Walk two blocks until you see the Farmers' Bank. Cross the street and almost immediately take a left turn again. The entrance to Sun College is down a few yards on your right. Can you remember all that?
M:I guess I got a little lost in the middle.
W:Well, perhaps the best thing for you is to find your way up to Mass Hospital and ask again.
M:OK. Thanks a lot.
W:My pleasure.
