　　With three universities in the QS World University Rankings® 2016-2017, Malaysia’s capital is up 12 places in this year’s QS Best Student Cities index, and is quickly establishing itself as one of Southeast Asia’s leading study destinations. The rapidly improving reputation of Malaysia’s higher education sector, headed by Universiti Malaya (now ranked joint 133rd in the world) reflects the wider coming to prominence of the country itself on the world stage.

　　Kuala Lumpur is very much a manifestation of this. This city of gleaming skyscrapers, including the iconic Petronas Twin Towers (the world’s tallest buildings until 2004), is as perfect a representation of the changing balance of power in the 21st century world as you could hope to find.

　　However, it is by no means a soulless imitation of a Western city. Alongside air-conditioned malls and familiar multinational corporations, you can still find mosques and temples, street vendors and markets, and the rich multicultural mix which has always characterized this part of the world.

　　Kuala Lumpur also gets the highest score in the Affordability category of the index, with the ideal combination of low living costs and relatively low tuition fees. Considering the multicultural, exciting student lifestyle on offer, it’s unsurprising that Kuala Lumpur has proved popular with students, placing 30th in the new Student View category. When asked to name the best things about studying in Kuala Lumpur are, one survey respondent said: “The tolerance of different views and religions in addition to its high affordability” while another mentioned the city’s “Diversity in terms of culture, food and people.”

　　Part of Latin America’s second-largest metropolitan area and at the heart of the ‘Latin American boom’ of the early 21st century, Argentina’s capital is a dynamic city with growing opportunities for international students and graduates.

　　Argentina’s universities are renowned across Latin America for the quality of the graduates they produce, and this is reflected in Buenos Aires’ high score in the Employer Activity category of the Best Student Cities index, which measures the reputation of the city’s universities among graduate recruiters. Nine universities in Buenos Aires are featured in the QS rankings, led by the Universidad de Buenos Aires at joint 85th in the world.

　　For students considering studying at one of the many universities in Buenos Aires, the lifestyle is likely to offer a major draw. World-renowned nightlife, enticing cuisine, a pleasant climate and one of the continent’s most vibrant arts and culture scenes combine to make Buenos Aires a favored destination for travelers of all ages and interests.

　　Known for its proud links to the Robin Hood legend, Nottingham is located in the East Midlands of England in the UK, and affectionately referred to as the ‘Queen of the Midlands’. It’s also known for being a major sporting center, named the 'Home of English Sport' in October 2015.

　　Getting about is easy in Nottingham thanks to its award-winning public transport system, and there are a great deal of things to do, with large shopping centers, theatres, galleries, music and entertainment venues. There’s also plenty of history and culture to explore, from museums, to Nottingham Castle (along with the famous Robin Hood statue), and the Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, which claims to be the oldest pub in England.

　　However, Nottingham’s highest score is for the new Student View category – with a strong score of 6th, the city is certainly proving popular with its students, and received lots of praise in our student survey for its thriving student lifestyle, nightlife and friendliness. One student survey respondent said there’s a“Great balance between top ranking university education and brilliant nightlife – I had the stereotypical student life and loved it!” Another explained, “The campus is beautiful and the city is really affordable on the UK scale.”

　　Adelaide joins Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth and Gold Coast as one of seven Australian entries in the QS Best Student Cities 2017 – reflecting the nation’s high quality of living, large and diverse student population and highly ranked universities.

　　Three universities based in Adelaide are featured in the QS World University Rankings® 2016-2017, all within the world’s top 600: the University of Adelaide, University of South Australia and Flinders University.

　　Australia’s fifth-largest city, Adelaide is located on the south coast, and is known for its attractive wide boulevards, open spaces, parklands and easily navigable city center. 　　The capital of Belgium and headquarters of the European Union, Brussels is known for its international character – and this is reflected in the high proportion of international students at its universities. As well as being known for its international diversity and central role in European politics, Brussels is also famed for its chocolate shops, comic strip art, pubs, cafés and attractive architecture.

　　Two Brussels-based universities feature in the QS World University Rankings® 2016-2017: Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) – both ranked within the world’s top 220. The first is predominantly French-speaking and the second Dutch-speaking (these are the two official languages of the city), but both offer courses in English at graduate level.

　　In addition to a strong score in the Student Mix category of the QS Best Student Cities index, Brussels also scores very well for both Desirability and Affordability, offering relatively low tuition fees.

　　The city has also proved a hit with students, placing within the top 50 of the new Student View category and receiving praise for its friendliness, diversity and cuisine.
