Leisure facilities
Parma, a city on a human scale, offers a high standard of living as well as cultural events and recreational activities for all needs. The city is strategically situated in the centre of the Po valley, just a few kilometres from Bologna, Milan, and Florence, and only an hour from the Ligurian Riviera. The Po valley extends towards the North and the forests of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines stretch to the South.
The city has about 190,000 inhabitants and a 260 km2 surface. It is peaceful, has excellent amenities and hosts a variety of cultural events.
Parma abounds with theatres, cinemas, and museums, the new Paganini Auditorium, art exhibitions and galleries, as well as various festivals including a jazz and an international theatre festival.
The urban green spaces consist of six large parks containing several sports facilities as well as the opportunity of simply strolling in the fresh air.

"Ildebrando Pizzetti" University Choir

The University Choir (website) is made up of a group of friends who enjoy playing music and singing together. No particular musical competence is required in order to sing: this will be acquired with experience. This activity is free. The choir’s repertoire varies from medieval to modern music (spirituals, Scottish songs, etc.), but their pièce de résistance is Renaissance and early Baroque music.
The Choir rehearses once a week, on Mondays from 21 to 22.30.
The ensemble rehearses once a week at the Musicology Department: on Tuesdays at 18. To join it, you simply need being able to play an instrument, preferably a string or wind one, even at an amateur level.

The University Orchestra is made up of students from the University of Parma. This initiative started in October 2000 as one of the activities promoted by the Musicology Department and it is open to all students wishing to play an instrument at the University. The group includes 25 instruments (violins, violas, cellos, double basses, flutes, clarinets, oboes, horns, trumpets, trombones, and pianos) and studies a "classical" repertoire, prevalently chamber music. The ensemble gives concerts both at the University of Parma and elsewhere, providing the opportunity for cultural exchanges with students from other Italian and foreign Universities.
