Annual Honours Research Essay Kinsman Studentship and Kinsman Prize
OVERVIEW
The aim of this scholarship is to encourage honours students to develop their research essay so that it can be published in a refereed journal. Some essays require additional analysis, collection of additional data, or the refinement of the conceptual framework, while others may require rewrites. An additional objective of the scheme is to further develop the student's research skills and increase the possibility that the student may choose to undertake a research-based postgraduate degree. The scholarship requires the student to work jointly with a supervisor/advisor.
BENEFITS
· The scholarship is $1500, payable in three instalments
· The supervisor/advisor is responsible for determining when instalments are paid.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must have completed an honours degree at the Faculty of Business and Economics
APPLICATION PROCESS
The application should be submitted by the student and include the following:
· Complete online application (below)
· An abstract of the research essay
· Statement from the supervisor/advisor as to the merit of the essay, the potential for the essay to result in a publishable paper (including mark awarded to the essay) and the title of the targeted journal
· Statement from the student identifying why they wish to apply
· Signed statement from the Head of Department indicating that:
a. The student has been given a copy of the University's Code of Conduct for research, and
b. The issue of collaboration and authorship has been discussed and agreed upon between the supervisor/advisor, student and Head of Department. This statement should also contain the signatures of both student and supervisor/advisor.
KINSMAN STUDENTSHIP DECLARATION
Care should be taken to ensure that The University of Melbourne Code of Conduct for Research is not breached. In the event of a disagreement arising over joint authorship, or any other aspects of the collaboration, the student should first seek assistance from the Head of the Department. If the Head is unable to resolve the problem, the matter should then be referred to the Faculty's Associate Dean (Research).
SELECTION PROCESS
The criteria to be used in the selection process will include:
· Quality of the research essay
· The potential for the essay to result in a publishable paper.
OUTCOME OF APPLICATION
Successful students and supervisors/advisors will be notified by the Secretary of the Research Committee. The first two payments will be made on advice from the supervisor/advisor that the student is making progress; the third payment will be made on receipt of a paper ready for submission to a journal.
The three best research papers supported under this scheme – one each from Accounting, Economics and Finance – will receive a prize. The prize is to be funded from the Kinsman Fund (see Statute 10.3 and Trust Record) and will be known as the "Kinsman Honours Research Essay Prize ('department')". The value of each prize will be $500.

Flagstaff Partners Honours Finance Scholarship
OVERVIEW
To acknowledge and support academic achievement聽Flagstaff Partners聽is pleased to sponsor a scholarship for Bachelor of Commerce students intending to undertake the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) specialising in Finance.
NUMBER OF PLACES

BENEFITS
· The Scholarship is valued at $10,000
· The scholarship is for tenure of one year and is payable in two instalments: in May and October.
· Flagstaff Partners may offer the scholarship recipient the opportunity to undertake an internship with the firm over the summer vacation preceding their Honours year.
ELIGIBILITY
· Applicants must be either an Australian citizen or hold Australian permanent residency.
· Bachelor of Commerce students in their final year of study, intending to undertake the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) specialising in Finance in 2018.
· Applicants must have or be studying a major in Finance.
· Applicants must have an interest in the investment banking industry.
Please note: This Scholarship may not be awarded to an applicant who is currently in receipt of another industry sponsored scholarship.

SELECTION PROCESS
Selection will be based on academic merit, demonstrated interest in the investment banking industry, strong interpersonal skills, leadership potential and interview performance.
Recipients who do not enrol in the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in the subsequent year to the awarding of the scholarship will not receive payment and will forfeit the scholarship.
OUTCOME OF APPLICATION
All shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an interview with a Flagstaff representative and a representative from the Faculty of Business and Economics.聽

Honours Accounting Students’ Society Alumni Scholarship
OVERVIEW
The Honours Accounting Students’ Society Alumni Scholarship was established by the Department of Accounting and the Honours Accounting Students’ Society (HASS), for female students undertaking Honours in accounting.
This scholarship, jointly sponsored by the Department of Accounting and the Honours Accounting Students’ Society (HASS), is intended to attract a wider pool of female applicants to the Accounting Honours degree.

VALUE OF SCHOLARSHIP
Value of the award is between $12,500 and $15,000 per annum.
BENEFITS
One annual scholarship up to $15,000, payable in two instalments: May and October, after government HECS Census date.
DURATION
Awarded annually to a female student enrolled in Accounting Honours program within the Faculty of Business and Economics.
ELIGIBILITY
A female student who is:
· Currently completing the final year of the Bachelor of Commerce
· Commencing the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in the Department of Accounting in the next academic year
· Will be undertaking ACCT40005 Honours Research Essay subject
SELECTION CRITERIA

OVERVIEW
Established in memory of Professor Charles Samuel Soper, former Dean of the Faculty of Business & Economics and Professor Joan Rydon, Professor in Political Science and founding member of the Australasian Political Studies Association and the Australasian Study of Parliament Group.

BENEFITS
Net Annual Income of the trust. In 2017 the scholarship is valued at $4,949.28.
The scholarship is for one year and conditional upon full-time enrolment in the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree.
ELIGIBILITY
· Students commencing the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Economics specialising in economic theory or mathematical economics.
APPLICATION PROCESS
There is no need to apply, eligible candidates are automatically considered.
SELECTION PROCESS
The Head of Department of Economics will nominate a recipient based on all eligible student's subject choice in their Honours year (i.e. those related to mathematical economics and economics theory), thesis topic and academic merit (as determined by undergraduate results in the Bachelor of Commerce)
