　　The following are general admission requirements and are subject to  change.

　　Applicants educated outside of Ontario must submit evidence of education  equivalent to the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six Grade 12 U or  M courses. Please note: Ryerson reserves the right to be the final arbiter of  what will be accepted on an equivalency basis.

　　It is essential that subject prerequisite requirements and grades for  specific Ryerson programs form part of the academic background of applicants  from outside Ontario, especially in the last two years of secondary school  studies.

　　Programs may specify non-academic requirements for admission (e.g.  portfolio, admission essay, interview, audition, etc.). These programs are  referred to as Grades-Plus programs. The specific non-academic requirements for  individual Grades-Plus programs, including specific submission dates and  procedures, are available by visiting each Program page. Note: for Grades-Plus  programs, both academic and non-academic criteria will be used in the admission  selection process.

　　Proof of English Language Proficiency may be required.

　　Admission requirements vary by undergraduate program. Applicants who have  completed any post-secondary studies should also visit University/College  Transfer Students. Please see the applicable documents below to determine your  academic admission requirements (subject to change):

　　American School System/Advanced Placement

　　Graduation from Grade 12 of an academic program at an accredited secondary  school with high academic standing including minimum B grades in the  program-specific subject prerequisites and a minimum B overall average. Subject  to competition, applicants may be required to present averages/grades above the  minimum. In most cases, subject prerequisites should be completed at the AP  level and/or Grade 12 senior academic level (some exceptions apply). The high  school profile (including accreditation, grading scheme, etc.) must accompany  the academic record. While we do not have minimum SAT or ACT score requirements,  strong performance on a standardized test can strengthen an application. If SAT  or ACT examinations have been written, the results should be submitted. Advanced  Placement (AP) examination results will also be considered. AP courses with  examination scores of 4 or higher will be considered for transfer credit on an  individual basis. Engineering students are not eligible for transfer credits for  core and professional engineering courses using AP examinations.

　　Senior High School (Upper Middle School) Graduation Diploma, Academic  Proficiency Test/Upper Middle School Graduation (Hui Kao) Exam, and Chinese  National University Entrance Examinations (Gao Kao). Applicants who have not  written, or do not intend on writing the Gao Kao examination must submit a  signed and dated letter providing the reason(s). Additional requirements include  a notarized copy of Hui Kao (or equivalent test) results and results from any  other standardized academic tests (e.g. SAT, ACT or AP tests). Copies of awards  received for academic achievement as well as reference letters from school  officials highlighting academic accomplishments are encouraged.

　　Document Requirements:

　　Interim Secondary

　　A current transcript including any mid-term/mid-year results available, the  grading scale, and the name of the diploma to be awarded upon completion of your  studies. A school profile should accompany your transcript. Please also provide  a letter indicating the date you will write the Gao Kao and proof of  registration (if available). If you have not written, or do not intend on  writing the Gao Kao examination, you must submit a signed and dated letter  providing the reason(s). Additional requirements include a notarized copy of  your Hui Kao (or equivalent test) results and results from any other  standardized academic tests (e.g. SAT, ACT or AP tests). Copies of awards  received for academic achievement as well as reference letters from school  officials highlighting academic accomplishments are encouraged.

　　Final Secondary

　　A notarized copy of your final Chinese Upper Middle School transcript and  graduation diploma are required along with a notarized copy of your Hui Kao (or  equivalent test) results and your Gao Kao results verified by external,China  Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Centre (CDGDC) or  external,China Credentials Verification (CHESICC-Parchment Portal Service).  Results from any other standardized academic tests written (e.g. SAT, ACT or AP  tests) must also be submitted. If you have not, and will not be sitting for the  Gao Kao exam, you must submit a signed and dated letter providing the  reason(s).

　　Final Post-Secondary

　　An academic transcript and notarized English translation verified by  external,China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Centre  (CDGDC) or external,China Credentials Verification (CHESICC-Parchment Portal  Service)

　　中国学生

　　Applicants who have completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma  must present grades of 4 or higher in three Higher Level and three Standard  Level subjects with a grade total of 28 or higher. Subject to competition,  applicants may be required to present averages/grades above the minimum. The IB  certificate and IB Career-related Programme (IBCP) cannot be used in lieu of the  high school diploma requirement. IB Higher Levels with grades of 5 or higher may  be considered for transfer credit on an individual basis. Engineering students  are not eligible for transfer credits for core and professional engineering  courses using IB subjects.

　　English Language Requirements

　　Applicants from a country where English is not the first language, or where  English is an official language but not the first language, including applicants  who have resided in Canada for four calendar years or less (i.e. official date  of entry to Canada was on or after January 1, 2013 for Fall 2017), are required  to present proof of English Language Proficiency at a satisfactory level.

　　It is in your best interest to complete your English proficiency test and  have the score submitted to Ryerson as soon as possible. If your test is not  received in a timely manner, it may delay the assessment of your  application.

　　Requirements for admission must be completed or in progress at the time of  application. The assessment of an application is based on the information  available at the time of application review. Ryerson will not accept English 12U  or equivalent in lieu of a test of English language proficiency.

　　Applicants with citizenship from some countries are not required to provide  proof of English language proficiency.

　　Ryerson offers online and in-class preparatory English language courses  through the external,G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education to help  applicants prepare for English language proficiency tests.

　　Ryerson offers the Ryerson ESL Foundation Program for applicants who are  academically qualified to apply for admission to an undergraduate degree  program, but do not meet the minimum English Proficiency (EP) requirements.  Minimum EP results for the Ryerson ESL Foundation Program are indicated  below.

　　Directions for Submitting an English Proficiency Test (TOEFL, IELTS, MELAB,  CAEL, PTE)

　　Invited applicants may submit English language proficiency test results,  which include Test of English as a Foreign Language (external,TOEFL) (Ryerson  institution code 0886), International English Language Testing Service  (external,IELTS), Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (external,MELAB),  Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (external,CAEL), or Pearson Test  (external,PTE) results. Applicants should write tests as early as possible.  Applicants must arrange for official results to be forwarded by the applicable  agency / testing centre as soon as possible directly to Undergraduate Admissions  and Recruitment at Ryerson within application deadlines. Ryerson will not accept  test results submitted by the applicant or any other means.

　　The name, date of birth and other personal information on an Official  Proficiency Test Score must match the information provided on the application  for admission form. If there is a discrepancy, the results may not be matched to  the application.

　　Minimum English Proficiency Results
