  The University of Auckland is New Zealand’s highest-ranked university. It is also the largest and most comprehensive. The University’s student population of 42,000 includes 6,000 international students representing over 110 countries.

  We have formal agreements with 155 universities in 34 countries and are the only New Zealand member of Universitas 21, the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) and the Association of Pacific Rim Universities.

Auckland was ranked third out of 230 cities in the 2015 Mercer Quality of Living Survey. We have five main campuses, the largest of which is nestled within Auckland's bustling cultural and business hub. From theatres and cafes, to sports and outdoor pursuits, there are myriad recreational opportunities right on our doorstep.

  The University of Auckland is ranked within the top 100 of the QS World University Rankings, making it New Zealand’s highest ranked university. It is also the largest and most comprehensive. The University’s student population of 42,000 includes 6,000 international students representing over 110 countries.

  In the QS World University Rankings by Subject, the University of Auckland is ranked first in New Zealand in 37 of the 40 subjects, featuring in the top 50 in 16 subjects.

  It is also recipient of a five star plus QS Stars University Rating for excellence in the categories: Research, Employability, Teaching, Facilities, Internationalisation, Innovation and Inclusiveness.

  Conjoint degrees are also offered where undergraduate students can study for two degrees at the same time and complete these in a shorter timeframe than if studied individually.

  Student support

  POSTGRADUATE

  Study options

  The University of Auckland offers an impressive range of study options with 130 postgraduate programmes across eight faculties and two large-scale research institutes.

  Under a New Zealand Government scheme, new international PhD students usually pay the same annual tuition fees as New Zealand students.

  A reputation for research excellence

  With the country’s highest concentration of top-ranked researchers, postgraduate students have the opportunity to learn from, and collaborate with, outstanding academics. The University is a research-intensive university that has research strengths in both traditional disciplines and emerging cross-disciplinary subjects.

  We are the only New Zealand university that has both Engineering and Medical and Health Sciences faculties. This has enabled pioneering collaborations between medical and engineering researchers and resulted in the creation of the flagship Bioengineering Institute, internationally recognised for its sophisticated computer modelling of living organisms.
