　　stand， cope， approve ， retain

　　“stand”表示“忍受”，相当于“withstand”(抵抗)或者“bear”(忍受)。

　　“cope”表示“处理，应付”。

　　“approve”表示“同意，赞成”。

　　“retain”表示“保留，保持”，相当于“hold within”或者“keep”。

　　raise ，add ， take ， keep

　　“raise”表示“提高增加”的时候，相当于“to increase in size, quantity, or worth”。

　　“add”(增加、添加)它的意思是“join or combine or unite　with others to increase the quality, quantity, size or scope”，也就是说，是和别的东西加在一起。比如：“add fuel to the flame”(火上加油)，“add insult to injury”(凌辱交加)等等。

　　“inflate”(膨胀)，这个单词的原意指的是“充气”，后来被用来表示“过分地或不合适地夸大或夸张”，“不当地高涨”，可以用来表示经济上的通货膨胀;也可以用来表示某种情感过于流露，比如：“inflate with pride”(洋洋得意)，但是我们不能说数字膨胀。

　　“expand”的意思是“to increase in size, area, volume, bulk, or range”，即“指在大小、面积、容积、体积或范围等方面的增长”，例句：“He does exercises to expand his chest.”(他做锻炼以扩大胸肌)。

　　“increase”在英语中，如要表示数目上升的时候，用的就是“increase”。

　　“extend”指的是“加大空间、加长时间或扩大范围”，“to lengthen in space or time or to broaden in range”，通常翻译成“延长”，例句：“the extended meaning of ...

　　考研写作如果要找捷径，最好的方式就是背诵历年的优秀范文。其实细分十年的考研英语一试题的大作文，无非就是三大类：一是社会问题型;一个社会现象型;另外一个是抽象品质型。所以，每种类型的文章大家背诵几篇，在具体写作中就能用上思路和优美的句子短语。当然通过辅导发现，同学们出现的更多问题在于文章内部之间关系的问题，就是每一段话显得毫无关系，或者说即使找到了立意也无话可说的现象，要想取得考研的写作高分，应做到丰富多变。

　　这体现在词汇和句型两个方面。同一词或短语在一句话、一个段落乃至一篇文章中最好不要重复出现，而应尽量使用同义词、近义词替换(无法替换的关键词除外)。例如明显的obvious可以用apparent，evident和manifest等词替换。此外，句型句式也应突出丰富多变，下面主要讲讲名词性从句。

　　在主从复合句中，从句可以充当主句的主语、表语、宾语或同位语。由于在多数情况下，主语、表语、宾语或同位语这四种句子成分由名词性词类充当，所以，我们把这些作用相当于名词的从句统称为名词性从句，把充当主语、表语、宾语或同位语的从句分别称为主语从句、表语从句、宾语从句或同位语从句。也就是说充当什么成分就叫什么从句。名词性从句由连接词(或关联词)如whether,that,who,whom,whose,which,what,when,where,how,why等引导。

　　它们的特点是：

　　1、疑问词有本身的词义;

　　2、疑问词在从句中担当句子成分，如主语、宾语或状语;

　　3、这种疑问词引导的从句一律用陈述语序，不能用疑问语序。

　　Do you know whom they are looking for? 你知道他们在找谁吗?(宾语从句，陈述语序。不能是whom are they looking for?)

　　I don’t know who did it. 我不知道这是谁干的。(宾语从句。在从句中如果疑问词作主语，其陈述语序和疑问语序一致。)

　　She asked me where I had been. 她问我到哪儿去了。(宾语从句。陈述语序，不能是where had I been. 直接引语，间接引语。注意这句话的时态。)

　　Can you tell me when the train will arrive? 你能告诉我火车什么时候到吗?(宾语从句。陈述语序，不能是when will the train arrive. 直接引语，间接引语。)

　　I don’t know why he hasn’t come yet. 我不知道他为什么还没来。(宾语从句，陈述语序。不能是why hasn’t he come yet.)
