　　2020考研英语：长句被动语态的翻译方法

　　一、掌握被动语态翻译方法的必要性

　　西方人在日常交流或学术论文中都习惯使用被动语态，但是中国人通常使用主动语态，这是两种语言在形式上的差异，背后蕴藏了东西方思维的差异。英文句子中被动语态主要在三种情况下出现。第一，不知道或不必要指出动作的执行者;第二，强调或侧重动作的承受者;第三，有些句子习惯上常以被动语态。由于中国人更习惯使用主动语态，不经常使用被动语态，因此学生在看到英文句子中的被动语态时，时常会机械地把表示被动语态的be done翻译成“被”。但问题是有些句子比较简单，翻译出“被”字无可厚非，例如：

　　(1)I was defeated by them.

　　我被他们打败了。

　　但有些考研英语考研试题中出现被动语态的句子很复杂，翻译出“被”字会让译文很拗口，例如：

　　(2)That the seas are being overfished has been known for years.(2006年Text3)

　　这些年，海洋正在被过度捕捞这件事被人们知道。

　　显然，这样的译文质量比较低，不太符合中文的表达习惯。因此在面对考研英语考研试题长难句时，掌握正确的被动语态的翻译方法十分重要。

　　二、被动语态的翻译方法

　　在考研英语考研试题中，被动语态一般出现在两类句子中，分别是普通句式和特殊句式，其中特殊句式指的是it作形式主语的结构。因此，被动语态的翻译需要分两种情况进行处理，即普通句式的被动语态和特殊句式的被动语态。

　　(一)普通句式的被动语态

　　1.顺译

　　对于考研英语考研试题中出现的简单的被动句，可以直接采用顺译法，翻译成“被…”，有时是比较通顺的，例如：

　　(3)people at first can suddenly become sensitive to a certain a smell when they are exposed to it often enough.(2005年完形)

　　这个句子中when引导的时间状语中出现了被动语态，句子比较简单，可以直接翻译成“被…”，即从句可翻译为：当人们被长时间暴露其中。

　　2.倒译

　　考研英语考研试题中大部分被动句是比较复杂的，采用顺译法时常不能让我们翻译出比较通顺的译文，这时需要采用倒译法。第一步，省略“被”字，这一点是为了更好地符合汉语中不常使用“被”字的表达习惯。第二步，从后往前翻，先说谓语，再说主语，即把主谓关系变成谓宾关系，例如：
